BBS worked with Sunshine Coast Regional Council to undertake a peer review (with follow up implementation) of community engagement activities relating to the high-profile Mooloolaba Foreshore Revitalisation Project.
The project had come under increasing criticism from vocal community leaders for failing to listen and respond to concerns, particularly from local traders. A contentious political climate and anticipated community reactivity meant the review needed to occur swiftly and allow Council’s project team to adjust their approach and narrative urgently.
BBS conducted a deep review of messages, communication tools and engagement methodologies. Our work resulted in changes to the project narrative which were rolled out by Council across the project website and communications materials.
Council also adopted our recommendation to segment and layer stakeholder groups so that an appropriate mix of face-to-face, written and digital communication was deployed. The work allowed Council to get project works on track without impact to timeline and design.
