Coomera Connector Stage 1 South is a vital infrastructure project for the region, set to improve traffic flow between the Smith Street Motorway and Nerang-Broadbeach Road, and is part of the broader Coomera Connector initiative set to alleviate pressure on the Pacific Motorway (M1).
In 2024, BBS was engaged by civil contractor Winslow to deliver and execute a Strategic Communications and Engagement Management Plan for the Queensland Government Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Coomera Connector Stage 1 South Early Works Project.
BBS’ focus in developing the plan was to keep local residents, businesses, and other key stakeholders informed and engaged throughout the early works, managing community expectations and opening two-way communications channels allowing stakeholders to ask questions and voice concerns.
This has guided BBS’ implementation of engagement activities, including doorknocking, letterbox drops, community consultations, and digital updates, ensuring the community is well engaged and aware of the project’s timeline and clear mitigation plans for any potential disruptions such as road closures, noise, and environmental impacts.
By maintaining transparency and working collaboratively, and by establishing frameworks for two-way communications, BBS has helped Winslow and the Department of Transport and Main Roads ensure minimal disruption to daily life while delivering essential infrastructure, aiding community support levels as the project progresses to the main works package.
