Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry

As a new, independent entity, the Truth-telling and Healing Inquiry approached BBS seeking mainstream media coverage of their Ceremonial Hearing and initial hearings held in Brisbane during the week of 16 September 2024.

BBS media training the Chair and four members, developing a media policy and social media policy, guidelines for media interaction and social media activity for participants, and a media kit for journalists, as well as a media plan to maximise mainstream coverage of the Inquiry. Urgent start up was critical in order to maximise coverage in a tight timeframe.

BBS secured 10 journalists and four TV news crews for the opening event and coordinated an impromptu press conference. This resulted in more than 850 mentions across broadcast, print and digital media, multiple print articles in The Courier-Mail and The Australian, and online articles and syndications throughout Queensland and Australia in the following week.

The client was delighted by the result and provided positive feedback about both the media relations and training provided, with one member citing it as ‘the best training they had ever received’.

Intern at BBS

BBS operates a University Internship Program which offers placements in line with the university semesters, plus holiday period intakes, generally June/July and December/January/ February.

We accommodate trimester students and our program is open to applicants who are pursuing an internship of their own accord outside of the standard university semester calendar.

As a BBS intern you can expect to work alongside experienced professionals on real client projects, an environment which provides an accurate picture of what life as a communications consultant is like.

BBS interns are always considered first for our graduate roles and many of our former interns have gone on to senior roles within our firm.

Working in a consultancy is diverse, fast-paced. It’s often said that “you’ll learn more in your first year in consultancy than in your first 3 – 5 years in another role”.
