BBS has officially launched its new Work Life initiatives policy – Great Ways to Work at BBS – covering flexible working, professional development, health and wellbeing, and of course, fun.

The initiatives include a monthly rostered day off (RDO), work from home and flexible hours, a formalised professional development program, subsidised group fitness classes, an annual ergonomic assessment, as well as supportive parental leave and return-to-work arrangements.

BBS General Manager Louise Cruice said despite previously offering many of these initiatives informally, the consultancy was pleased to have a formal policy in place – ensuring all employees knew what they could access.

“With a team of just over 25 people, BBS is a small business, but we punch above our weight in terms of our working environment and results,” Ms Cruice said.

“As such, it is important for us to provide an environment which both supports, acknowledges, and rewards our team’s hard work and dedication.

“Through these initiatives, we encourage our team to look after themselves, physically and emotionally, and always aim to support their professional goals,” she said.

As a part of the consultation process, BBS held an offsite day to better understand what was important to the team when it came to work life balance.

“Team culture, attitude and energy are everything to us – so it was fantastic to have an opportunity to speak candidly with the whole team to understand what they needed from a work life policy,” Ms Cruice said.

“During our offsite day, we learnt in many ways we were already on the right track and have since been able to formalise our existing practices and introduce new initiatives to cement this supportive work environment and team culture.”

This year, employees have already been able to participate in new initiatives including a free run club, summer hours, and most recently, a monthly RDO for all full time employees.

BBS is an award-winning, independent consultancy operating across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region for more than 30 years. For more information get in touch.

Intern at BBS

BBS operates a University Internship Program which offers placements in line with the university semesters, plus holiday period intakes, generally June/July and December/January/ February.

We accommodate trimester students and our program is open to applicants who are pursuing an internship of their own accord outside of the standard university semester calendar.

As a BBS intern you can expect to work alongside experienced professionals on real client projects, an environment which provides an accurate picture of what life as a communications consultant is like.

BBS interns are always considered first for our graduate roles and many of our former interns have gone on to senior roles within our firm.

Working in a consultancy is diverse, fast-paced. It’s often said that “you’ll learn more in your first year in consultancy than in your first 3 – 5 years in another role”.
