Coogee Chemicals

BBS supports WA-based Coogee Chemicals with all issues management on Australia’s east coast, integrating with the local crisis management teams in order to guide internal and external communication.

Proudly Australian and family owned, Coogee Chemicals is a diversified chemicals manufacturer specialising in bulk liquid storage with dedicated logistics networks for a range of dangerous and non-dangerous goods. Inherent in Coogee’s activity is managing the activities of a diverse range of chemical-production facilities and a large fleet of company-owned and contractor vehicles.

Coogee’s on-road activities are high risk, given the potential for interactions with the general public during the transporting of dangerous goods on motorways and local roads, and their offloading in highly populated areas, such as to pool supply retailers in shopping centres and also to manufacturing businesses. In recent times, BBS has coordinated communication for ‘live’ incidents, including vehicle accidents which temporarily closed the Pacific Motorway and also environmental risks from chemical spills. In this capacity we have coordinated on site communication resources, liaised with Head Office in Perth regarding messaging for key executives and handled all media enquiries.

Our role also extends to reviewing and advising on updates to the communication components of incident management plans.

Intern at BBS

BBS operates a University Internship Program which offers placements in line with the university semesters, plus holiday period intakes, generally June/July and December/January/ February.

We accommodate trimester students and our program is open to applicants who are pursuing an internship of their own accord outside of the standard university semester calendar.

As a BBS intern you can expect to work alongside experienced professionals on real client projects, an environment which provides an accurate picture of what life as a communications consultant is like.

BBS interns are always considered first for our graduate roles and many of our former interns have gone on to senior roles within our firm.

Working in a consultancy is diverse, fast-paced. It’s often said that “you’ll learn more in your first year in consultancy than in your first 3 – 5 years in another role”.
